The “one axis and four halls” of the Expo's venues are the places where LED applications are concentrated. The unpredictable night lights of the Sunshine Valley on the Expo Axis are one of the attractions of the Expo Park. There are more than 80,000 LED luminous points on it. The distinctive Chinese red of the China Pavilion is also set off by the white LED light. The theme pavilion, the Expo Center, and the Cultural Center also all have their own beauty. The large global outdoor LED display with a length of 300 meters and a height of 30 meters at the opening ceremony of the World Expo also created an unforgettable visual feast with the swirling fireworks.

In addition to the "one axis and four pavilions", the square landscape lighting, riverside landscape belt, sign and intelligent guidance system, and various national pavilions in the Expo Park also mostly adopt new LED lighting technology.

The biggest highlight of the Taiwan Pavilion-the blessing sky lantern on the lighting water platform uses LED display technology to transform the sky lantern into the sky. The 91-meter long and 47-meter wide "moon ship"-shaped building in Saudi Arabia is one of the most popular Expo sites. The large circular LED screen on the ship displays the smiling faces of children from all over the world. The surface of the large ball of the German Pavilion's climax program "Power Source" is also covered with 400,000 LED light-emitting diodes to display changing patterns. The Petroleum Pavilion, General Pavilion, Meteorological Pavilion, etc. are also equipped with unique LED screens, which complement the theme of the exhibition.

In Puxi’s urban best practice area, there is also a pavement paved with LED lighting floor tiles. Whenever the night falls, the LED system can display different colors and patterns on the ground with the buckle end belt over time. Visitors provide information and instructions.

Although the Expo Park has bright lights, the actual electricity consumption is not too large, which is largely due to the energy-saving features of LED technology. As a new type of solid-state light source, LED has the characteristics of small size, low power consumption, long life, fast response, and high reliability. At present, it has been recognized by the world as an important button end belt for energy saving and environmental protection. Guo Yansheng, director of the Shanghai Semiconductor Lighting Engineering Technology Research Center, introduced that such a large-scale LED lighting application in the Expo Park can achieve a comprehensive energy-saving efficiency of more than 70%.

Since 2005, Shanghai has started the research and development of LED lighting applied to the World Expo, and has accumulated a large number of technical button-end tape foundations, such as semiconductor lighting and architectural nightscape artistic design technology, semiconductor technology and intelligent control, networked system integration technology, Large-scale application technology of domestic high-power white LED devices.
